WHAT IS IT?

All-State Band and District Honor Band are two opportunities for high achieving band students to showcase their skills. Students prepare a lyrical etude, a technical etude, 4 major scales, and the chromatic scale. Students will also be asked to sight-read. Students go through two rounds of auditions to determine their skill level. Students who advance past the second round of auditions will be selected to participate in the All-State Band. This is a great achievement and a high honor for middle school band students. Students who do not qualify for All-State Band will be considered for one of two District Honor Bands. All students are HIGHLY encouraged to attempt the audition. Chances are very high they will be selected for one of the three honor band opportunities.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

Who is eligible?
ALL AMMS Band students 6th – 8th Grade.
***6th Grade students auditioning should be highly advanced (1+ years of playing experience) before considering the audition.***
 
Registration Fee: $30.00
** Please note that there is no refund for this fee, as once your student is registered, the money is sent to GMEA. **
 
Audition Requirements:
Woodwinds + Brass:

• Lyrical Etude
• Technical Etude
• 4 Major Scales (F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat)
• Chromatic Scales
• Sight Reading

 
Percussion:

• Snare Etude
• Timpani Etude
• Marimba Etude
• 4 Major Scales (F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat)

2nd Audition Date: January 10th, 2026 @ Union Grove MS
Inclement Weather 2nd Audition Date: January 17th, 2026 @ Union Grove MS
DISTRICT HONOR BAND: February 6th – 7th 2026 @ Alpharetta HS
ALL-STATE BAND: March 5th – 7th, 2026 @ Classic Center in Athens
