7th & 8th Grade / qualifying 6th grade: GMEa events

8/30/2017

Information regarding two of our GMEA (Georgia Music Educator's Association) events has been posted on the EVENT tab.  Please see information regarding GMEA Solo & Ensemble and GMEA All-State / District Band Auditions.  Paper copies are available in class.  Students also have a copy of the information as well as the registration link in their Google Classroom.  To register students should log in to their Google Classroom account and use the link provided.  Payments should be sent in as cash or check.  Checks can be made payable to Autrey Mill Middle School.  Event requirements are included in the information letters.  Please read carefully as events cannot be refunded.  Scheduling conflicts only apply to extreme needs for competitive events that conflict on performance days.  GMEA will not allow late registrations for these events to please pay attention to due dates.

GMEA Solo & Ensemble Performance Evaluation:  DUE no later than Thursday, September 7, 2017

Solo & Ensemble is a great event for ALL students.  This is an easy event for students to try if first starting out with an extra event or for those nervous about competitive events.  All aspects of this event are prepared ahead of time and are controlled.  There is no sight-reading involved.  Students may perform alone or with their peers.  This is the best event to assist students in becoming better musicians and developing their musicianship skills.

GMEA All-State / District Honor Band Auditions:  DUE no later than Friday, September 22, 2017

All-State/District Honor Band Auditions is a competitive event.  This is a great way for our student musicians to put their skills to the test and show off their musicianship.  The majority of the event is prepared ahead of time but there is a sight-reading component.  We have had great success in previous years with AMMS Band students representing us.  It is my desire to continue on that tradition of excellence and hope to see many of our students try this event.  We have numerous students that are ready to compete at the District and State level.  Each year we generally have 30-40 students to register for this event.

Both of these events are highly encouraged for our AMMS Band students.  These are wonderful events for personalized learning and way for our students to shine in the area of music.  I will be there to coach them along the way.  Please consider these enrichment/learning opportunities!
