Mrs. Wendy Wilson Autrey Mill Middle School Director of Bands Wendy Wilson is Director of Bands at Autrey Mill Middle School in Johns Creek, GA. Mrs. Wilson has been the director at Autrey Mill for 20 years since its opening in 2003. Prior to her appointment at AMMS in Fulton County, she taught at Sandy Springs Middle School (Fulton County/2000-2003) and Lilburn Middle School (Gwinnett County/1998-2000). Bands under her direction consistently earn Superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation. Her students participate in Solo and Ensemble and earn Superior ratings. Students also hold positions in several honor ensembles including District Band, District Honor Jazz Band, and the Georgia All-State Band. Ensembles under Mrs. Wilson’s direction have been invited to perform at the Governor’s Mansion, Spruill Oaks Library events, and the Johns Creek Arts Festival. In recent years, her ensembles have received Superior ratings at the Southern Star Music Festival and Orlando Fest Music Festival as well as earned first place in their category. Mrs. Wilson is an active member of GMEA and has served as coordinator for Solo and Ensemble Performance Evaluation, District All-State auditions, District Honor Band, and the Georgia All-State Band. She has been called upon as a sectional clinician for various events and assists as an assistant director with the Johns Creek High School Marching Gladiator Band. Mrs. Wilson is equally active in her school serving as a Leadership Team member, department chair, 6th grade Mini Camp Manager, PRIDE Coordinator, new teacher mentor, and cooperating teacher for student teachers. Mrs. Wilson, a native of Georgia, attended Fayette County High School. She holds a Bachelors in Music Education from the Florida State University and a Masters in Music Education from University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Wilson recently earned her Tier 1 Certificate in Educational Leadership from University of North Georgia. She is a former member of Tara Winds. Mrs. Wilson has received nominations for the Disney All-American Teacher Award and Teacher of the Year on several occasions. She received the Face of Fulton Award in 2015 and was the 2015 Teacher of the Year for Autrey Mill Middle School. Mrs. Wilson continued to become the middle school finalist for the Northeast Learning Community for County Teacher of the Year in Fulton County. Mrs. Wilson holds membership in Sigma Alpha Iota, the National Band Association, The National Association for Music Education, and the Georgia Music Educators Association. She resides in Johns Creek, Georgia with her husband, Todd Wilson, and two children, Morgan and Kalen. She also has two cat fur babies named Diddle and Coda. |
